The first altiport

Italy’s very first high-altitude airport (altiport) was built in Chamois in 1967 and is located along the path that leads to the village of Suis. Made only for ultra-light and touring aircraft, it has a grass runway going in the direction of the valley floor with a gradient of between 12% and 20%: taking off is downhill and landing is uphill. Scenic flights of the Matterhorn are available, as well as the opportunity to take flying lessons.
