The cable car Buisson-Chamois in part of the regional public transport system and is open all year round (except for short scheduled maintenance periods) from 7 am to 10:30 pm, departing every 30 minutes or 15 minutes with high turnout.
in 1955 the environmental sustainability topic wasn’t yet so widespread, still the municipality of Chamois didn’t give in to the appealing idea of road mobility and chose the cableway to link the village and the valley floor. The cableway ended up to be the quickest and most direct transportation, sparing the construction of roads that would have led to air and noise pollution.

In spite of travelers’ descriptions from the beginning of the 20th century which stated that building a carriageable road would lead to a successful future for the “splendid climatic resort”, as Sylvain Lucat reported in 1908, Chamois’ people didn’t opt for it, as it would have inescapably changed the landscape. The cableway’s presence then influenced the urbanistic choices: the small cobblestone roads running through renovated buildings were kept intact, preserving the charme of the area. Since then, the cableway was modernized to make it safer and more comfortable. Since 2001 a cable car sides it to lift goods and encumbering or heavy items.
